So many genres to choose from, I'd like to know your two favourite. For me, it's Gansta Rap, and Political Rap.

Who are they?
Certainly, you aren't speaking of the artists themselves.

Mon, September 3, 2007 - 8:13 AMyou would be surprised, out here in the Bay when you go to a show it's mostly white people.
If you ask someone on the street if they know about Grouch, Del, Blackalicious, etc they have no idea.
Yet they know yukmouth, Too Short and fity cent.
The "White man hip hop" NEVER gets play on the major radio stations, no one cares or has heard it.
Yet it is better, need less censorship to be playable to masses and has a stronger message.

2. re: the term "white man hip hop"
i think i understand the subgenre you speak of and i must say it is incredibly problematic and discriminatory to label it "white man hip hop." this tends to be hip hop with a message, usually commenting on politics, human rights, social constructs, even environmental and spiritual issues. it is SO fucked up to label "intelligent" hip hop as belonging to a white man, as this just perpetuates the same old classist, racist bullshit we've been putting up with for so long. if you take a moment to look at the people who are actually MAKING this music, they are by and large people of color. if this subgenre happens to appeal to white people more that gangsta rap, fantastic. but this by no means makes it hip hop for white people. if anything, it is hip hop for everybody, as it is concerned with the issues that affect us ALL. i hope you will consider this and maybe spark a discussion with the "they" who seem to tell you it is white man hip hop. -

Is this in response to my saying that "intelligent" hip hop is often made by people of color? I wonder if what I said what somewhat miscontstrued. For the record, I do believe that good hip hop can be, and is, made by LOVERS OF HIP HOP, regardless of ethnicity, skin color, etc.
